Buying Collector Plants: Photos and Questions to Check Before Ordering
Before buying a collector plant, review the current photos, the wording of the listing and the order details together. A photograph helps you assess the plant's appearance, but it does not by itself establish a cultivar's history, parentage or provenance.
Are you buying the exact plant pictured?
Read each listing carefully. Confirm whether it describes the exact specimen pictured or a representative plant. Do not assume that every product uses the same fulfillment arrangement. If the wording is unclear, ask YuPlant before confirming the order.
Ask for current photos
YuPlant's shipping policy states that updated photos of the actual plant are provided for review before the order is finalized. Use these to check its current appearance. Plants may have grown or changed since the listing photos were taken.
What should you look at in the photos?
Review the whole plant as well as leaf close-ups. Check the visible leaf condition, growth structure and variegation shown, where relevant. Ask for clarification if the size, rooted condition or any visible damage is unclear. Avoid judging the complete plant from a single attractive leaf.
Confirm the name and any background claims
Ask the seller to clarify an unfamiliar plant name or collector label. If parentage, cultivar history or provenance matters to your purchase, ask what information is available to support it. Photos and a sales name alone should not be treated as proof of those details.
Will future growth look the same?
